What it does
The MEC80 is a galvanically isolated, bidirectional 80 kVA converter module built on gallium nitride switching at up to 1 MHz. One module converts between a 0 to 1500 V DC port and a 0 to 1000 V AC or DC port through a high frequency isolation stage, which replaces the line frequency transformer along with its size, weight and losses.
Modules are designed for series stacking. With fiber isolated EtherCAT control and full galvanic isolation, stacks reach system voltages of tens of kV for solid state transformer applications, while single modules serve as compact building blocks for battery storage, electrolysis, fuel cells and solar conversion.
The sealed, fanless enclosure is liquid cooled through two coolant fittings and fits a standard 19″ rack at 2U height. There are no filters, fans or scheduled service items.
From one module to a three phase transformer
The same module is the unit of scale. Twenty of them on common busbars make a 1.6 MVA rack, and three of those racks make a 4.8 MVA three phase solid state transformer.
